Ok…maybe not THIS selfie!
NOTE FROM UNDER HER BRIM 07.13.24.
An email was sent to our team by an unverified email account signed as the original person mentioned in the article, asking that we remove the story. Since we re-shared it from Teen Vogue and credited the author and source with the most pure intentions of bringing awareness to our community, not infringe on a personal journey, we have taken out the persons name and most of the original story.
We at Under Her Brim still want our family, friends and supporters to be mindful of and have a doctor look at any lumps or discuss any changes in their throat. A selfie showing a change, changed a life.
When we saw this story in Teen Vogue and thought about how many doctors appointments, dentist and Urgent Care visits made for children or someone else in our family. The truth is parents and cargivers often leave themselves out of the doctor, dentist, ophthalmologist rotation when taking loved ones to get those needed sports physicals, grade specific vaccines and nurse-just-sent-home-a-note-that-your-child needs an eye doctor appointment. If the title of this post didn’t get your attention, we certainly hope the story does.
*Story shared in 2017 has been taken down* A selfie could save your — or someone else’s— life. If you notice a lump on someone’s neck, making them aware of thyroid cancer symptoms could make all the difference.
Please take the time to care for yourselves and stay health aware Under Your Brim!

It’s amazing how our loved ones can sometimes take better care of us than we can! We are so worried about those around us, we fail to put that same focus on ourselves.

So true. We have to encourage each other to do better. I’m certainly guilty. I felt like I was always at the doctors office (and I was for the children) but when I went for ME – they had to get my chart out of the archives…that is not ok.
