The Face Behind the Brim–ME! I’m Shawnette—Chief Visionary, Speaker, Podcaster, Survivor and the driving force behind Under Her Brim.

This platform is the manifestation of years of encouragement from family (biological and adopted), friends, and even a few grinning enemies. They all urged me to do one thing: stop hiding in the shadows of shame and finally share my truth while inviting others to do the same.

My story is one of a “determined-to-do-it-ALL” survivor. I am a survivor of domestic violence and bias. I am a survivor of “church folk” (notice I didn’t say “The Church”—there is a difference). I am a survivor of divorce, becoming a sudden single parent to a posse, and a survivor of my own self-doubt and self-destruction.

For years, these unexpected twists and turns were sources of embarrassment. But I know now that these were the tools God used to grow, shape, and design me. He repurposed my pain to strengthen my life.

As women, we are often groomed to say “I’m fine” or “I’m strong.” We stay bound, bitter, and tired from carrying the weight of the world on our shoulders. I decided I was tired of dragging that baggage around. I know God did not create a person as fabulous as me to be bound and bitter (yes, self-love is a requirement here!).

Formerly known as Preciouslyfe Ministry, this organization has evolved. Under Her Brim is more than just support for DV survivors and advocacy—it is a movement for all of the hats we women wear.

So, fasten your seat belts, keep your arms and legs inside the vehicle, and hold on to your hat. We are embarking on a journey that is honest, gritty, emotional, funny, and direct. It’s time to take a hard look at what is really going on… Under Her Brim.
